Vancouver, WA Anniversary Portraits

It’s always fun to do work for family. Knowing your subjects is the key to getting good photos of them, and as much as I’m good at getting to know my clients quickly, you never know anyone quite as well as family.

This shoot was for my Grandparents’ anniversary. They always spend Christmas at the beach at Seaside, OR, and since their Anniversary is only a week after that, they figured it would be the perfect time to have me do something fun for them. We did groups and individuals for a major portion of my Mom’s side of the family, but I’ve tossed two favorites out here.

These are my grandparents, looking like they always look. It’s a rare day my grandfather’s not in coveralls and a trucker cap. I used some light trickery to change the gray sky into that really neat pastel blue, while keeping it looking like they’re staring out into a sunset together. They’ve got a really nice 8×12 of this shot sitting on their wall, and it makes me happy every time I see it.

This one’s my sister. The color temperature’s a bit wonky, but I like it that way. I opened the lens all the way up to get that nice creamy pastel and blown out background, but it caused a lot more natural light to be hitting her face which threw it in the wrong color direction. Still, definitely love the shot.

Whether it’s for family photos or a big commercial shoot, I love travelling for photos, and only very rarely will have to turn down a job because the distance is too far, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like being pushed! Call today and we can talk about finding a perfect location for your next job.
