Oregon Beach Portrait Photography

For a good year or two, Joelle here was my standard go-to light test model. Always down for adventure. For this trip, we were visiting her mother’s beach house in Yachats, Oregon, and I was testing out some new toys I’d just purchased.

Portrait against blue at the beach at Yachats, Oregon

This shot was the best of the first day. Thanks to a pretty basic lighting trick, I was able to take a dreary gray sky and turn it into that gorgeous shade of blue. The little bit of sun poking through the cloud cover then became this neat burst of light in a sea of blue, floating over another more literal sea of blue. I’ve done a number of shoots on Oregon and Washington beaches, and I know growing up in this area, those places were regular summer retreats for my family. There’s still a lot of memories at Lincoln City and Seaside for me, and I’m sure that’s the case with a lot of people who grew up in the area. That makes them a fantastic place to imbue photos with a little extra meaning. Not to mention that it’s not all that hard to make them look like any tropical beach for your next advertising campaign. Curious to know how some beach photos could work for your family or your company? Give me a call and we’ll talk about it!
